Over the summer I read a book called, A Home on the Field. This book is about a man named Paul Cuadros, who moves down to Siler City, NC. Siler City is a sleepy little town in the middle of North Carolina that gets many immigrants from Mexico. When Paul comes to this town, the feeling he gets is that they do not want anymore immigrants. While he tries to get used to the town he tries to make a soccer team for the high school. Many people immediately appose this idea because they do not like the idea of change, especially when it comes to Hispanic immigrants. When everything finally comes through, he gets his team and the town gets a new view on life and their beliefs.
About a week ago I interview a good friend of mine on the subject of immigration. When I asked her how she felt about the wall, she answered with, "It’s a stupid idea most people are not native anyway and they did not have to go through everything some people go through now. We should have open borders." I agree with her, I think that it should be easy for them to get through and become legal. They should not have to hopes to come over here. Plus if we are going to build a wall who do you think is actually going to build it?
